1. Bar Mitzvah Lessons

The cost for Bar Mitzvah lessons at Chabad of Lamorinda is $50 per 45-minute session.

Lessons may take place:

  • At Chabad of Lamorinda in Lafayette, CA
  • In your home
  • Online via Zoom or Skype

The Bar Mitzvah student receives personalized one-on-one tutoring with Rabbi Yisroel Labkowski.

Lessons include:

  • Torah chanting (Trope)
  • Haftarah preparation
  • Hebrew blessings and prayers
  • Synagogue skills and participation
  • Instruction on how to put on tefillin
  • Understanding the meaning and responsibilities of becoming a Bar Mitzvah

Most students require approximately 10 or more sessions depending on background, goals, and preparation level.

Tefillin should be brought to all lessons.

A tallit and tefillin are the responsibility of the Bar Mitzvah family and may be ordered through Chabad of Lamorinda.

2. Shabbat Attendance

It is important for the Bar Mitzvah child and family to become familiar and comfortable with synagogue life before the Bar Mitzvah celebration.

As part of this preparation, students should attend Shabbat morning services at Chabad of Lamorinda approximately six times during the six months prior to the Bar Mitzvah.

This investment helps encourage a lifelong connection to Judaism, synagogue participation, and Jewish community involvement.
